We have received the sad news about the untimely death of our long-term colleague and friend, the remarkable physicist Alexey Gagarsky

Alexey Gagarsky

It is difficult to accept and realize that Alexey left our world so suddenly, at the height of his creative powers and plans... Our close and very effective cooperation started in the distant past, when the IBR-30 reactor was still in full operation and had an intense beam of polarized resonance neutrons. A brilliant series of papers on the investigation of P-even and P-odd angular correlations of actinide fission fragments was carried out with the active engagement of Alexey Gagarsky; he was the first author in the publications of the results of these experiments.

In subsequent years, Alexey was one of the leaders in the investigations of the TRI and ROT effects discovered on the polarized neutron beam of the ILL. In these investigations, he showed himself not only to be a mature and skillful experimenter, but also to have a deep understanding of the physics of the discovered phenomena. And the pioneer experiments on the angular anisotropy of fission fragments caused by high energy neutrons that have recently been carried out in Gatchina will be orphaned without his participation.

It is very hard to lose colleagues and friends prematurely, but the loss of Alexey by his family is irreparable and we deeply sympathize with them and share with them the grief of losing their loved one.

We will remember with gratitude our many years of meetings with Alexey at traditional ISINNs, his smile, wonderful reports and lively discussions of current and scheduled experiments.
