It is with regret we have learnt that our colleague and friend Murman Tsulaia has passed away

Murman Tsulaia 07.06.1935 – 15.08.2024

He was inseparable from science all his life and devoted himself entirely to it. His name was well known at the Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, he was friends with many of our employees and we were united by joint research.

Murman Tsulaia began his scientific career in 1952 at the Institute of Physics of the Georgian Academy of Sciences. He worked on the development and commissioning of the IRT research reactor and afterwards, together with JINR employees, he was engaged in the issue of nuclear pseudomagnetism – neutron spin precession. Under him, a complex facility was designed for experiments with polarized neutrons and nuclei to carry out these investigations.

In 1994, he started working at FLNP JINR as a leading researcher, when the facility was delivered from Tbilisi to Dubna. Here, under his supervision and direct involvement, a thorough modernization of the KOLKHIDA facility was carried out, including production of a new cryostat for dissolving 3He in 4He with a superconducting solenoid and allowing research to be implemented in a wide range of neutron energies. Murman Tsulaya was a highly qualified specialist in the field of unique cryogenics and neutron research techniques.

He was a very intelligent person and enjoyed well-deserved respect and authority in the staff.

FLNP Directorate, friends and colleagues of Murman Tsulaia express their deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. The memory of our friend and colleague will forever remain in our hearts.
