FLNP Directorate and staff are mourning the loss of Wojciech Nawrocik, a famous experimental physicist, a science organizer and a great friend of FLNP and are giving condolences to his family and colleagues

Wojciech Nawrocik (16.01.1938 -  9.02.2026)

Since the 1970s, Prof. Wojciech Nawrocik (Faculty of Physics, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland) had extensively collaborated with JINR, firstly, as a member of the "Polish group" in the Department of Condensed Matter Physics of FLNP and later, regularly visiting FLNP to carry out experiments on inelastic neutron scattering on the CDRGS spectrometer. His favorite physical topic was the research of the structure and dynamics of molecular crystals, which world-level results had been obtained on.

Nawrocik's organizational skills as Dean at Adam Mickiewicz University, Chairman of the JINR Programme Advisory Committee for Condensed Matter Physics, as well as Member of the JINR Scientific Council were evident. A lot of of FLNP employees got their first experience of participating in international conferences, speaking at the three-day seminars "Neutron Scattering Investigation in Condensed Matter" that were organized annually by W. Nawrocik at the Faculty of Physics of Adam Mickiewicz University. These seminars were distinguished by a very creative, friendly atmosphere and unusual longevity; they had been held for almost 20 years headed by W. Nawrocik.

Professor Wojciech Nawrocik always supported the work of the NERA Group at FLNP, gave valuable advice and helped the Laboratory, he was a real teacher, a very good and fair person.

The memory of Wojciech Nawrocik will live in our Laboratory forever.
