The need for such a meeting was discussed in December, 2023 at the Asia-Oceania Conference on Neutron Scattering (AOCNS-2023). Heads of the neutron diffraction communities of China (CNSS, Hesheng Chen) and Russia (RosNeutro, A. F. Gubkin) undertook to organize it and successfully met the challenges. The main goals of the meeting were the exchange of experience in the use of neutron scattering for condensed matter research, discussion of current scientific areas and establishment of bilateral relations.
More than 60 specialists from 17 scientific organizations in China and Russia, including 8 representatives of the Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research took part in the meeting. Its scientific topics covered a very wide range of research areas, including condensed matter physics, materials science, industrial research using neutrons, the latest developments in neutron sources, detectors and experimental techniques. Over four days of intensive work, 20 invited, 31 oral and 12 poster reports were presented.
Within the framework of the meeting, the current state and future prospects of scientific cooperation between Russian and Chinese scientists in the field of neutron scattering for condensed matter research were discussed. The general opinion of the participants was quite unanimous – such meetings are very useful and it would be good if they became regular.
