Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Head of Sector of Neutron Activation Analysis and Applied Research Inga Zinicovscaia gave a lecture "Neutron Activation Analysis at the IBR-2 reactor" to the students and teachers of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Tula State Pedagogical University named after L.N. Tolstoy.
During the speech, the lecturer explained in detail the principles of operation of the unique pulsed reactor IBR-2 that is widely used in biology, chemistry and materials science, as well as gave impressive examples of its use. Among them are biomonitoring in the Tula Region, the state of Baikal sponges, phytoremediation of soils with nanoparticles, the effect of heavy metals on mice, the consequences of a volcanic eruption in Kamchatka and the investigation of space objects.
Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Head of Sector of Neutron Activation Analysis and Applied Research Inga Zinicovscaia "We have almost 20 years of friendship with Tula State Pedagogical University. We have already completed several biomonitoring investigations and currently, estimate the elemental composition of tomatoes that were grown in space. Every year, at least two students from the University join us. It came as a surprise to me that there was a high interest in the lecture: there was a full hall of students from the first to the fourth year, including future ecologists, pharmacists, foreign students that actively asked questions. There, I met two students that will come to us for a two-week practice on 1 June of this year.
The fascinating material and accessible form of presentation aroused the keen interest of the participants. The lecture was organized within the framework of a bilateral cooperation agreement with JINR.
