FLNP SEMINAR

04-04-2024 15:00 Conference hall (bldg. 42, 3rd floor)

The seminar is dedicated to interdisciplinary fundamental and applied research conducted by the Laboratory of Radiation Biology.

Radiobiological experiments at the nuclear physics facilities of JINR are aimed at studying the mechanisms of action of ionizing radiation with various physical characteristics at the molecular, cellular, tissue and organismal levels of biological organization. These experiments make it possible to solve fundamental problems in analyzing the patterns of formation and repair of clustered DNA damage under the influence of radiation of various qualities on normal and tumor cells of mammals and humans, studying the mechanisms of formation of gene, structural and complex mutations in them, studying behavioral disorders and identifying pathomorphological changes in the most important organs and systems of irradiated animals. Particular attention is paid to applied research areas: the development of new approaches to enhancing the biological effectiveness of radiation used in radiation therapy of tumors, and studies of the mechanisms of functional disorders of the brain when exposed to radiation. When organizing radiobiological experiments, it is extremely important to solve scientific and methodological problems related to improving radiation facilities, providing precision dosimetry, conducting computer modeling of radiation-induced effects, searching for ways of non-destructive analysis of unique samples and developing algorithms for automated data processing from biological experiments.
