"Development of neutron diffraction research at IBR-2"

A.M. Balagurov

In the development of the suite of spectrometers at the IBR-2 reactor and the methodology for conducting experiments on these instruments, there were several key points that determined the areas of scientific research for years to come. As for the neutron diffraction method, these points were:
- design and construction of the world's first high-resolution Fourier diffractometer on a pulsed neutron source and development of Fourier diffractometry;
- development of methods of obtaining neutron diffraction patterns from microsamples in high-pressure cells with anvils;
- development of methods for real-time analysis of irreversible transition processes in condensed matter.
The decisive role in the implementation of these methods at IBR-2, which continue to be successfully developed at present, was played by V.A.Trunov (PNPI, Gatchina), V.A.Somenkov (NRC KI, Moscow) and G.M.Mironova (FLNP JINR). The report will present their brief scientific biographies and provide examples of scientific achievements that became possible due to the diffractometers created at IBR-2 and the developed experimental techniques.
