On October 17, 2026, Evgeny Shabalin, FLNP Chief Researcher, turns 90.
Evgeny Shabalin, a distinguished Soviet and Russian scientist, nuclear physicist, and Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, went down in history as one of the main theoreticians and creators of the unique IBR and IBR-2 pulsed reactors. For his justification of new operating modes for the IBR reactor and the development of the IBR-2 reactor, he was awarded the USSR State Prize in 1971 and the Russian Federation Government Prize in 1997. E. Shabalin is the author of a fundamental scientific monograph, a memoir about life in the science city, and several works of fiction.
On October 22 (Thursday), a meeting with E. Shabalin and friends, colleagues, and anyone interested will have a Q&A and tea party in honor of the anniversary.
