International Conference

06-15-2026 Dubna, Russia

Following the commissioning of the IBR-2 reactor in 2025, the International Conference on Condensed Matter Research at the IBR-2 Reactor (CMR@IBR2 -2026) is resuming its work to discuss the latest experimental results, prospects for future research, development of IBR-2 instruments and neutron scattering methods.

The conference will be held from 15 to 19 June 2026, at the Meshcheryakov Laboratory of Information Technologies (MLIT) JINROral and poster presentations are accepted. The working language is English. No registration fee is required for the regular participants.

Neutron scattering research at the IBR-2 reactor (Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics, Joint Institute for Nuclear Research) covers different fields of condensed matter physics, materials science, chemistry, biophysical, geophysical and engineering sciences. During the last years, over 200 experiments per year are being performed at the IBR-2 instruments by scientists from more than 20 countries in the framework of the User Program. The conference will feature a User meeting in a roundtable format to discuss experiments, tools, and conceptual proposals for the new source and research base.

The Joint Institute for Nuclear Research was founded in 1956, celebrating  its 70th anniversary this year. The anniversary year will be marked by  a series of international and scientific events dedicated to this milestone, including CMR@IBR2-2026 conference.

This year's conference will be dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Yuri M. Ostanevich, a distinguished scientist who contributed significantly, among other things, to the development of the method of structural studies using small-angle scattering on pulsed neutron sources. However, Yuri Ostanevich's scientific interests were not limited to small-angle scattering. For example, he has written fundamental work in nuclear physics—on isomer shifts of neutron resonances—and in quantum mechanics—on the transient process in an interferometer. He has also contributed works of a methodological nature—on the problem of information compression in a three-dimensional diffraction experiment, to name but one.
