"Beyond Periodicity: Neutron Interference and Magnetic Order in Complex Multilayers"
Zaky A. Zaky
Wave interference in structured materials provides a common framework linking photonic, phononic, and neutron systems. This contribution examines how structural ordering and magnetic depth profiles shape neutron reflectivity in periodic and Fibonacci Co/Pt multilayers and Nb/Ho heterostructures. Experimental reflectometry and transfer-matrix modeling connect quasiperiodic layer sequences with distinct interference features and multiple characteristic length scales. Polarized neutron reflectometry provides sensitivity to buried magnetization, supporting the investigation of noncollinear magnetic configurations. Helical ordering and superconducting proximity effects in Nb/Ho systems are discussed as further directions, highlighting the interplay between structural complexity, magnetism, and neutron-wave propagation.
