Scientific problem:

When freezing mesitylene beads, deformations are observed under the impact of temperature gradients resulting in cracks and loss of sphericity, complicating the packaging in the IBR-2 moderator.

Objective:

Development of an analytical and numerical prototype of the bead shape during crystallization.

Tasks:

1) Preparation of a physical and mathematical prototype of the droplet shape during levitation over the coolant.
2) Freezing in a device for manufacturing beads and control of the shape of droplets.
3) Measurement of deviations from sphericity using a micrometer.
4) Data accumulation for the protoype refinement.

Research facilities:

Methane and mesitylene devices
